For perspective drawing to work you need to draw a horizontal line on which you can place one dot anywhere along this line for One Point Perspective, or two dots which are far apart from each other for Two Point Perspective.
These dots on the horizontal line are your Vanishing Points.
The horizontal line is called the Horizon Line and this line represents the height of the eye of the viewer of your image.
